Oradea one of the undiscovered gems of Romania

Discover a vibrant city whit a romantic atmosphere and a rich history and culture.

A few kilometers next to the border with Hungary it’s my beautiful city Oradea. A city split by the river Crisul Repede that gives to the city a romantic atmosphere but also a place where to hide in the summer enjoying the nature. For me was the place where I spend almost all my summers swimming in the Cold-water and playing with my friends.

I am so grateful and proud that I was born here, a lot of memories, emotion, and great people that make part of my life, and now, because I leave for so many years in Italy (almost 12 years), I have the chance to go back and visit Oradea and see with the eyes of the tourist.


So, let’s see what I suggest you visit in Oradea, tips that I give you like an insider!


First of all, you should go to a walk in the city center, Oradea have to big squares 1 December and the square of Union, where you will find also City Hall Tower that I suggest you visit and climb to the top, that will give you a nice spot to do the photo but also you will have a beautiful view of the center and admire the river. From the top you can see the magic of Oradea. And believe me Oradea have a great vibe and a magic touch!


In the city center you can admire the Black Eagle Palace is the place where the locals meet and also the tourist, a lot of coffee and good restaurants that give the place a nice vibe and relaxing , only a few steps away, you can find the Orthodox Church ” Moon Church “that has a beautiful mechanism invented by Georg Rueppe in 1793 that show the moon fase. Walking down to the street of independence you can find Zion Neolog Synagogue that was built in 1878 by the Jews of Oradea when they choose to separate from the Orthodox Jews. The Synagogue it is a modern replica of the synagogue of Nürnberg.


Cross the river to the bridge of St. Ladislau and find yourself in the front of State Teather Take a walk to Republic Square the largest pedestrian street and admire the buildings that make part of the Art Nouveau.


Before to cross the bridge go down to the river and admire the urban regeneration trough art that is located St. Ladislau bridge promenade.


Walking down to the Independence Street you can arrive at the Medieval Fortress one of the best-preserved medieval fortresses of Transilvania; inside of the fortress you can find a lot of expositions and museums that can help you understand more about the story of the city. The fortress of the city has a large park, in the summer, it is the host of medieval Festival of Oradea time that the fortress goes back in time, and you can see characters from legends, the citadel became a real medieval village full of magic and authenticity.


A great spot to enjoy the sunset is the mushroom Hill, it’s a great place from where you can admire the view of the city, also now by the locals to be a romantic place where you can relax and enjoy the sunset, you can bring your own snacks and drinks or you can buy directly from the restaurant that is located in the top of the hill.


If you want a relaxing day a good option will be to go to Nymphaea Aqua Park one of the biggest aqua park from this part of Europe.


Nearby the city a few kilometers away we have Baile Felix a leaving resort very famous for the treatment with thermal water the second biggest resort in Romania after the Black Sea, here, you can enjoy treatments with thermal water but also you can go on for a walk to the Waterlines Lake, next to the park it is the market where you can get some souvenirs made by the locals.Walking in the park you can visit the old wood Church that was built in 1785 in Brusturi and transferred first to the museum in Oradea in 1961 and then in Baile Felix.


In December the square of Union host the Christmas market, traditional Christmas decorations, souvenirs, live concerts and all this in a magic Christmas atmosphere where you can enjoy the best of traditional Christmas holidays. So, even if choose to visit in the winter still Oradea have a lot to offer for their visitors.
