  The construction start in 1440 by order of Voivode of Transilvania John Hunyadi, he want to transform the former keep building by Charles I of Hungary.

Was built în Renaissance-Gothic style and position over the site of the older fortification on a rock above the river Zalesti.

The shape and towers give the impotent presence and make it one of the most beautiful castle in Romania(in my opinion) and one of the well-preserved castle in Transylvania region, inside the castle there are several room are furnished with original and replica pieces to help you imagine how was to live in the castle back in the day.

The castle was used by John Hunydai like a luxurious residence but also a strategic point for military purpose to defend the region of different attack .

Even if it’s not a very popular castle, compare to Bran castel ,the form and the location make it a great discovery for who wants to learn more about the history of Romania.

Position not very far from Samisegetuza Regia the capital and the most important religious, political and military center of Dacians before the Roman Empire, can be a great destinazione for you next trip!

Outside of the castle you can find a lot of shops with souvenirs and local products.
